Standing Strong During a Pandemic

As the coronavirus continues to affect nearly every aspect of our lives, law enforcement is on the front lines nationwide, rising to the challenge of protecting and serving our communities while working to stay safe ourselves. The FOP is committed to supporting our brothers and sisters in blue by keeping them informed and updated on the latest news on this evolving situation. We will fight this pandemic together — and win. LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

The Michigan FOP and our counterparts in Michigan Public Safety, have been meeting since March with the Governor, House and Senate Leaders to address several issues.  During these Zoom conferences, we have stood united on four issues.  They are:

ISSUE 1: PAY PREMIUMS - We are requesting that all first responders who continue to fulfill their duties on behalf of their communities be paid additional funds.

ISSUE 2:  TESTING - We are requesting that MDHHS issue guidance for the PRORITY testing of ALL first responders whether they are symptomatic or not.

ISSUE 3:  PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT - We are requesting that the Governor and the state of Michigan assist with the attainment and distribution of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) for first responders.

ISSUE 4: WORKERS COMPENSATION – We are requesting that the Governor reverse the eligibility criteria originally included in the emergency rules on March 18 and accurately define first responder and public safety employees to encompass all employees working to protect the public.
